Texans assert independence and call for a Texas Bullion Depository and a more secure Texas

A CBSNews article from June 2015 titled "Texas wants its gold back from the feds" suggested that creating a state level bullion depository and a healthy gold reserve in The State of Texas could be the first step toward economic independence and secession from the federal government.

The article made specific references to the controversy from early 2015 surrounding a multi-state U.S. military training exercise known as "Jade Helm 15," saying, "It led to wild Internet-fueled suspicions that the war simulation was really a hostile military takeover. The speculation grew so loud that Gov. Abbott asked the State Guard to monitor the exercise. No other governor had so publicly addressed the training exercise."

Gov. Abbott was quoted saying, "It is important that Texans know their safety, constitutional rights, private property rights and civil liberties will not be infringed. By monitoring the Operation on a continual basis, the State Guard will facilitate communications between my office and the commanders of the Operation to ensure that adequate measures are in place to protect Texans."
